The Paint Is Dry

Last Saturday's unexpected sunny spell set the tone for a beautiful day of painting, music, and comfort food at our graffiti event Living Concrete.

Artists Ras Terms, Safety First, Resta, and Teka worked steadily on the mural throughout the day as the crowd watched, munched, and wandered through Oak Street Plaza. DJs Mista B, Quest, DnZ, and Brigidope kept the music bumpin' all day long. There was even a local celebrity appearance by artist Dan Fontes, the Oakland muralist best known for his massive giraffes painted under the 580 overpass.

When we closed up shop on Saturday evening about a third of the mural was completed. Since then the artists have worked tirelessly, enlisting the help of other notable Oakland street artists GATS, Dead Eyes, AshRose, and Keena, to get the job done. Come by and check out the finished piece! It'll be up through March.

If you missed the event, check out the recap and photos by Oakland Local, or video interviews with the artists by The Daily Californian
