Jennifer June Strawn

Jennifer June "JJ" Strawn is a writer, filmmaker, and photographer from Oklahoma, currently living in Los Angeles. JJ earned her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA in screenwriting from the American Film Institute Conservatory. With an emphasis on dark comedy and eccentric drama, she has written six feature scripts, several shorts, a TV pilot, and a collection of short fiction. Last year, her feature drama, A Sea Like Glass, was chosen as a quarter-finalist for the Nicholls Fellowship, and her feature comedy, Off the Coast, was a finalist in the San Francisco Film Society's Djerassi Screenwriting Fellowship. She assisted director Terrence Malick during post-production on The Tree of Life, read scripts for Film Independent, and taught video production at Street-Level Youth Media in Chicago and Portland Community Media in Oregon. Most recently, JJ made a foray into commercial screenwriting at the award-winning production house Digital Kitchen. She is currently developing two features and working on two long-term photo projects, a 3D portrait series of women and a collection of photos exploring the visual language present at the precise moment of emotional climax in narrative films.
